Reception’s Autumn Walk to Hyde Park

Autumn is here so Reception went on a walk to Hyde Park. We have been learning about the changes that come with Autumn such as the weather getting colder and the leaves turning into shades of yellow, orange and brown before falling from the trees.  We collected lots of leaves and twigs and we even found some prickly chestnuts. We had fun making crowns using some of the leaves that we found. We also played some parachute games. It was great to see children, parents and teachers all join in the fun!

‘5 Little Monkeys’ in Oranges and Lemons

The children in Orange and Lemon class have been learning a new nursery rhyme ‘ Five  Little Monkeys’. This nursery rhymes helps children to count 1-5 as the rhyme has 5 monkeys. The children found the rhyme fascinating and it also encouraged them to  sing along.

The children enjoyed the part when the ‘crocodile goes snap’ and were clapping their hands together with a  loud bang to mimic the closing of the mouth. The  children also used the props which enabled them to identify  a crocodile and a monkey. The children took part in various activities such as painting, collages that help to enhance their knowledge of learning.

Humpty Dumpty in Nursery

This week in Nursery, the children have been learning all about the nursery rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’. We have been printing our own bricks using paint and sponges and drawing our own Humptys!

We have been counting how many blocks we needed to build a wall for Humpty, and talked about the different materials we could use.

We have explored  identifying different shapes and learning a new shape oval, in the outdoor area.

The children have really enjoyed experimenting with eggs. First we talked about the different ways that we could crack the egg and  used magnifying glasses to take a closer look. We carefully passed the egg around at circle time and talked about what had happened. The children talked about how they use eggs at home for cooking and are really looking forward to using eggs to cook at Nursery!

We even enjoyed trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again!

This week in Nursery, we have been learning all about the nursery rhyme ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’. The children have been busy in the construction area building stars using the different shape blocks and we have been counting how many stars we can see in the sky, and matching the stars to numbers.

The children have been very creative, decorating their own stars using a range of resources and enjoyed using the glitter to make them twinkle!

We have been searching for stars in the outdoor area and creating our own tally charts to record our findings. We had lots of fun experimenting when we made our own sensory bottles, to represent day and night time, we even created our own floating stars.

Nursery Rhymes in Orange and Lemon Class

The children have been learning a nursery rhyme called ‘Five Little Ducks’. Adults were using props to support this learning and encouraging the children to repeat the following words: mummy duck, little ducks, ponds, and logs. The children could then choose different materials to paint and collage pictures of ducks, also the children enjoyed moving like ducks and make the sound of a duck.

The five little duck objects were displayed at the table permanently so that the children could return to them and role play. The children were very happy to take part in this topic because they went home and shared with their parents all they had been learning.
